Set Up Weekly Family Game Night

Set up weekly family game night to make the most of your summer. The kids are home, the days are slower and everyone’s looking for something fun to do? Bring out the board games! Setting up a formal game night once a week, with a few ground rules, will become the night that everyone looks forward to.

Start with a big announcement and a calendar prominently displayed marking out game night. It is going to be a very special occasion after all, and you’ll want everyone to be excited. Then, assign each family member to one of the nights as the head gamer. Every week, this person will get to pick the board game(s) to be played as well as the game snacks to be served. Every member of the family will then have a chance to play their favorites!

There are a lot of benefits to playing board games with kids. Board games teach many life skills like money handling, decision-making, good sportsmanship and even reading and vocabulary! The benefits are endless, not to mention the bond-building that take place when you play games as a family.

You could award prizes to weekly winners like a candy bar, an ice cream, a book, a ball or even a new board game. And the kids can even decorate a posterboard to track weekly winners and determine the Family Board Game champion of the summer. It’s a simple, low-cost way to add fun at home to your summer routine.
